Patna: In a major step towards youth empowerment and employment generation, the Bihar government will establish Mega Skill Centres in each divisional headquarters across the state. The initiative, spearheaded by the Labor Resources Department, was formally approved by the Council of Ministers, with a sanctioned budget of ₹280.87 crore for its first phase.
Labor Minister Santosh Kumar Singh stated that the objective is to provide modern, industry-oriented, and employment-linked skill training to the youth, especially from remote areas. The scheme is part of the “Seven Nischay Part-2” program, aimed at equipping the young workforce with relevant and high-quality skills.
Nine Mega Skill Centres in First Phase
Under the first phase, nine Mega Skill Centres will be set up – one in each divisional district – over the course of the next five years (2025–2030). These centres will be developed in collaboration with governmental, non-governmental, and industrial organizations, ensuring a blend of academic rigor and market-driven training.
Minister Singh emphasized that these centres will not only reduce youth migration but also help them earn a dignified livelihood within the state. “The skilled manpower emerging from these centres will cater to the needs of the industry and contribute to both economic growth and social inclusion,” he said.
Training, Internships, and Job Linkages at No Cost
Speaking about the implementation, Deepak Anand, Secretary, Labor Resources Department, said that the Mega Skill Centres will provide technical training aligned with market demands, followed by internship opportunities and direct job placements.
Importantly, all services – including training, internships, and job linkages – will be offered completely free of cost to beneficiaries.
“Our goal is not just training but transforming lives through economic empowerment,” Anand added. “This initiative will create a strong base of skilled professionals in Bihar and improve the socio-economic condition of the youth.”
Employment Fair Sees Participation of 32 Companies
In a parallel move to support job seekers, the Labor Resources Department organized the first employment fair of FY 2025–26 at the Miller School Grounds in Patna. The event was hosted by the Lower Regional Employment Office, based at Employment Bhawan.
A total of 32 employers, including major private sector companies like HDFC Life, SBI Life, SIS Security, Swiggy, Flipkart, Taj City Centre, and Shivshakti Agriculture, participated in the one-day job fair.
The event was formally inaugurated by Digha MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, in the presence of senior officials including Deputy Director (Planning) Shyam Prakash Shukla, Assistant Director (Planning) Ankit Raj, and other planning officers.
The next job fair is expected to be organized in two months, providing ongoing opportunities for employment across sectors.
Impact and Outlook
The Mega Skill Centres, coupled with proactive initiatives like employment fairs, signal Bihar’s focus on sustainable skill development and youth employment. These programs aim to bridge the gap between training and actual job placement, ultimately contributing to the state’s economic resilience and inclusive growth.
