Patna: Visitors to the world-famous Harihar Mela at Sonpur can now enjoy the fair in five-star comfort with luxury tent accommodations organized by the Bihar Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC). Known as Asia’s largest cattle fair, the event combines cultural spectacle with modern amenities, making it convenient and enjoyable for domestic and international tourists alike.
Special Tent Arrangements for Tourists
For the first time, the BTDC has set up two types of high-end tents near the mela grounds – the Mini Darbari and Rajwada tents. These luxury tents offer air-conditioning, attached bathrooms, 24-hour electricity and water supply, and enhanced security arrangements. Both domestic and international visitors can book these tents, with pricing differentiated for local and foreign tourists. Domestic tourists can stay at ₹3,000 per night, while international visitors pay ₹5,000 per night. Special couple packages are available at ₹6,000, which include all amenities along with food and guided tours.

Luxury Transport Facilities from Patna
To ensure smooth travel to the mela, the BTDC has arranged luxury transportation from Patna. Departure points include Veer Chand Patel Path and Guru Nanak Bhawan near Daroga Rai Path. AC buses, Decker buses, Travellers, Innova, Winger, and Etios vehicles are available with fares ranging from ₹900 to ₹1,300 per person depending on the vehicle type. Daily guided tours of the mela are organized from Kautilya Vihar between 12 PM and 7 PM, allowing visitors to fully explore the fair.
Special Couples’ Tour Package
This year, a dedicated package has been introduced for couples. At just ₹6,000 per couple, the package includes luxury tent accommodation, AC transportation, meals throughout the day, and a professional tourist guide. This initiative makes it easier for visitors to enjoy the fair without worrying about logistics, offering a hassle-free and memorable experience.
Cultural and Spiritual Significance
Harihar Mela takes place at the sacred confluence of the Ganga and Gandak rivers, beginning on Kartik Purnima and continuing for a month. The fair has a deep-rooted mythological and cultural history, attracting millions of devotees who come to take ritual baths in the holy waters. The addition of luxury accommodation and organized travel makes it easier for tourists to experience the mela’s spiritual, cultural, and festive atmosphere comfortably.
