Patna: The Bihar government officially launched the Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan at Krishi Bhawan in Mithapur, Patna, with the goal of enhancing agricultural productivity through direct dialogue between agricultural scientists and farmers. The initiative was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, who highlighted the government’s commitment to doubling farmers’ incomes through modern science and technology.
Direct Interaction Between Scientists and Farmers
Under this nationwide campaign led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and State Agriculture Departments, the focus is on disseminating information on natural farming, balanced fertilizer use, and latest agricultural innovations. The campaign will run from May 29 to June 12, 2025, targeting improved Kharif crop yields.
104 Teams to Cover 4,662 Villages in Bihar
In Bihar, 104 expert teams from 44 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) under ATARI, Patna, will visit over 4,662 villages. These teams will assess soil health, local agro-climatic conditions, rainfall patterns, and water availability. Based on these findings, farmers will receive tailored advice on ideal crops, improved seed varieties, sowing techniques, and nutrient management.
From Lab to Land: A Two-Way Exchange
Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal emphasized the mission’s ‘Lab to Land’ approach. He noted the importance of listening to farmers’ challenges, which include pest infestations and regional farming issues. “This two-way dialogue will guide future research and bring science and farming together,” he added.
Technical Sessions and Farmer Participation
A technical session on the campaign’s first day was jointly organized by ATARI Patna, the Eastern Research Campus of ICAR, and KVK Barh, with participation from 150 farmers of Patna district. Scientists explained practical techniques and innovations that could significantly improve agricultural outcomes.
Government’s Vision for Green Fields and Farmer Prosperity
Speaking at the launch, Vijay Kumar Sinha said the campaign represents more than a farming initiative—it’s a pledge for farmer prosperity and environmental sustainability. He also announced that Kisan Sankalp Sabhas will be organized at the block level to ensure the campaign reaches grassroots farmers across the state.
