New Delhi: The Patiala House Court on Friday denied bail to Gaganpreet Kaur, the woman accused in the fatal BMW crash that killed Finance Ministry Deputy Secretary Navjot Singh and seriously injured his wife. The court adjourned the bail hearing to Wednesday, September 24, granting more time to the Delhi Police to continue its investigation.
The tragic accident occurred on Sunday, September 15, in Delhi Cantonment area when a speeding BMW allegedly driven by Kaur collided with the motorcycle carrying Navjot Singh (52) and his wife Sandeep Kaur.
Key Points from the Court Hearing
- Advocate Pradeep Rana, representing Gaganpreet Kaur, said that his client is fully cooperating with the investigation and is willing to provide her mobile phone and driving license to the police if requested.
- Rana also claimed that Gaganpreet called the PCR (Police Control Room) shortly after the accident, indicating her “good intent” and willingness to help the victims.
The defense has requested the preservation of the Call Detail Records (CDR) of both Kaur and another individual named Gulfam, who was allegedly driving a van nearby. The court has issued a notice to Delhi Police to preserve this data, terming it potentially “crucial evidence” in the trial.
Complainant’s Lawyer Argues for Delay in Bail
Advocate Atul Kumar, representing the complainant (the victim’s family), confirmed that the bail hearing has been deferred because Delhi Police sought more time to examine key evidence.
“The police are awaiting the medical condition of Sandeep Kaur, the surviving victim, who is still hospitalised and unable to give her statement. Doctors have stated it may take 2–3 more days,” Kumar said.
Investigators are also in the process of analyzing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses from the scene.
Custody Extended Until September 27
Earlier this week, the court had extended Kaur’s judicial custody till September 27. The accused remains lodged in Tihar Jail as the probe continues.
