Bhopal: In a major push towards industrialization and indigenous manufacturing, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday laid the foundation stone for BEML’s greenfield rail manufacturing unit, ‘Brahma’, in Umaria village, Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh.
The ₹1,800 crore facility is expected to be a game-changer for the region, creating over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs and catalyzing local industry.
A National-Scale Project with Local Impact
The new plant, officially named BRAHMA (BEML Rail Hub for Manufacturing), is being developed by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) on 148 acres of land. The unit will manufacture metro coaches, Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trainsets, EMUs, and other high-speed rail components, significantly strengthening India’s transportation infrastructure.
Speaking at the ceremony, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “This project will change the face of Madhya Pradesh. It’s not just a factory, but a milestone that represents India’s self-reliant future. More than 5,000 people will get employment, and small-scale industries will benefit across the region.”
He emphasized that the ‘Brahma’ plant is symbolic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ missions, aimed at boosting local production and reducing dependency on imports.
