Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer A S Rajan speaking about ‘Combating Misinformation in an Age of Hyper Information’ at GRD School of Commerce and International Business and GRD Institute of Management warned people how misinformation is becoming a big threat to our democracy.
Mr. Rajan during the event, spoke about how misinformation transforms into disinformation and the involvement of several organisations in deliberately doing it. He said, “A huge amount of money is being spent to harm the reputation of India, which is emerging as a regional power. Youngsters are becoming victims of the spread of misinformation. We have to be aware of what information we are consuming by checking the actual sources, before sharing it with others.”
The officer took it to the youth of the nation and urged students to select politics as a career choice as he says, “there is a huge shortage of good, educated and honest people in public service.” He further says, upon entering politics, representatives must strive to protect democracy and fight the misinformation that is impacting the country’s growth.
Many examples were also put through by the IPS officer where he called out incidents where innocent people were also lynched who were framed as child kidnappers.
