New Delhi: In a fresh administrative move, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has assigned additional charges to three senior officers holding the rank of Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr. CCIT). The move, formalized in an order issued on Monday, will come into effect from April 1, 2026, and continue until further orders.
Key Appointments and Additional Charges
Preeti Garg (IRS-IT 1989), currently serving as Pr. CCIT, Bengaluru, has been entrusted with the additional charge of Pr. CCIT, Hyderabad, taking over from M Anil Kumar (IRS-IT 1990).
Debjyoti Das (IRS-IT 1990), presently Pr. CCIT (Exemption), has been assigned the additional charge of Pr. DGIT (I&CI), Delhi, replacing Amitav (IRS-IT 1990).
Surabhi Verma Garg (IRS-IT 1990), currently Pr. CCIT, Kolkata, has been given additional charge of two positions — Pr. CCIT, Patna and Pr. CCIT, Bhubaneswar, taking over from Jayant Misra (IRS-IT 1989) and M Anil Kumar respectively.
Significance of the Assignments
These additional charges are part of CBDT’s routine administrative realignment aimed at ensuring seamless continuity and leadership in key regional and functional offices. By entrusting senior officers with multiple responsibilities, the Board seeks to maintain operational efficiency and oversight across its important jurisdictions.
The assignments also underscore the CBDT’s focus on strengthening leadership in critical positions, particularly in tax administration, exemptions, and investigation wings, to align with the government’s broader fiscal and revenue objectives.
Effective Date
All the assignments will come into effect from April 1, 2026, and will remain valid until further orders, as per the official CBDT notification.
