New Delhi: In a major move to bolster the Indian judiciary, the Central Government on Friday notified the appointments and extensions of sixteen judges across five High Courts, following recommendations from the Supreme Court Collegium. The appointments, made by the President of India under Articles 217(1) and 224(1) of the Constitution, include promotions of Additional Judges to permanent status and the elevation of a judicial officer to the Delhi High Court bench.
Andhra Pradesh High Court: 4 Additional Judges Made Permanent
In a significant step for the Andhra Pradesh judiciary, four Additional Judges have been elevated as permanent Judges. The appointments are effective immediately and come under Article 217(1) of the Constitution.

Justice Gurusiddaiah Basavaraja, an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court, has been made permanent, thereby reinforcing the bench’s capacity to deal with a growing number of cases.
Strengthening the Judiciary Across the States
These appointments come at a time when several High Courts across India are functioning with vacancies exceeding 25%, affecting case disposal rates. The move is expected to ease judicial workload, enhance decision-making efficiency, and strengthen the overall justice delivery system.
