The scheme aims to reduce farmers’ dependence on paddy and encourage a diversified cropping system that ensures higher income and greater food self-sufficiency for the state.

Financial Aid for Growing Pulses and Oilseeds
Under the new initiative, financial assistance will be provided to farmers growing pulse crops such as tur, moong, urad, and gram, and oilseed crops like mustard, soybean, and sunflower. According to agriculture extension officials, the incentives will be given based on the area under cultivation and the production potential of the crops.
Crop Diversification to Minimize Risks
The Agriculture Department has emphasized that dependence on a single crop—mainly paddy—makes farmers vulnerable to losses due to climatic uncertainties and market price fluctuations. Shifting to pulses and oilseeds will not only diversify their income but also enhance soil fertility, increase long-term profitability, and lower input costs.
Support Beyond Incentives: Seeds, Training, and Technical Guidance
The scheme offers more than just financial support. Farmers will also receive quality seeds, technical assistance, and hands-on training. Agriculture Extension Officer Mr. Vijay Dheeraj said departmental teams are conducting outreach in villages to ensure that a maximum number of farmers are aware of and benefit from the scheme.
Boost to Local Economy and Food Self-Sufficiency
This strategic move is expected to address local demand for pulses and edible oils within the state, cutting down dependence on imports from other regions. It is anticipated to strengthen Chhattisgarh’s agricultural economy, improve rural livelihoods, and promote self-reliance.
Vision: Self-Reliant Farmers and Resilient Villages
The broader vision of the Agriculture Department is to enable every farmer in Chhattisgarh to adopt multi-crop farming, thereby ensuring stable incomes, reduced risks, and a stronger village economy. This initiative stands as a concrete step toward empowering farmers and achieving agricultural self-sufficiency in the state.
