In a major step towards strengthening the education system in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai announced the recruitment of 5,000 new teachers while outlining the state’s long-term educational vision. Speaking at a programme held in Raipur, the Chief Minister stated that education is the foundation of nation building and has been given top priority in the state’s “Developed Chhattisgarh Vision Document 2047.”
Mr. Sai revealed that an in-depth departmental review had highlighted uneven distribution of teachers, with a shortage in rural areas despite an overall teacher-student ratio better than the national average. In response, the state initiated a rationalisation drive, ensuring that no school in the state is without a teacher. As a result, even previously closed schools in remote villages like Irkbhatti have reopened.
Focus on International Standards and Local Inclusion
The Chief Minister said that the goal is to bring the quality of schools and colleges up to international standards while increasing the contribution of the education sector to the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). He noted that primary education in the state is now imparted in 18 local languages and dialects, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020, and helping boost learning outcomes and cultural preservation.
Under the PM Shri School Scheme, students are receiving access to hi-tech learning facilities, and Rs. 133 crore has been sanctioned for school infrastructure maintenance. Hostel conditions are also being improved as part of this integrated educational reform.
From Conflict to Development: A Vision for Bastar
Addressing the persistent issue of Naxalism, the Chief Minister said that Chhattisgarh’s transformation from conflict to development is now gaining momentum. Over 1,500 Naxalites have surrendered, and a dual strategy focusing on security and development is being implemented in coordination with the Union Home Ministry. Special schemes like ‘Niyad Nella Nar’ are being used for rehabilitation, while investments are being made in roads, education, electricity, and water in affected areas.
Highlighting the development of Dhudmaras village in Bastar, which was recently ranked among the world’s top 20 tourist villages, the CM reiterated the state’s plan to use tourism as an industry driver, alongside expanding irrigation facilities and generating 200 MW of power through the Bodhghat project.
Educational Infrastructure Expansion
Reflecting on progress made over the past 25 years, the Chief Minister said that while the state once had just one medical college, it now has 15 operational medical colleges, 19 private universities, and 3 more universities in the pipeline.
Teachers Honoured
At the conclusion of the event, Mr. Sai honoured outstanding teachers with the “Excellent Teacher Award”, recognising the contributions of Ms. K. Sharda, Mr. B.R. Sahu, Mr. Bharat Kishore Yadav, Dr. Dhananjay Pandey, and Mr. Baldau Singh Shyam.
Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Sharma, Revenue and Sports Minister Mr. Tankaram Verma, and several MLAs including Mr. Purandar Mishra, Mr. Motilal Sahu, and Mr. Guru Khuswant Saheb were also present, alongside prominent educationists and students from across the state.
