Bahraich: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath arrived in Bahraich on Sunday to review the ongoing rescue operations and meet with families affected by the tragic boat accident that occurred in the Kaudiyaala River earlier this week.
Eight People Still Missing in Boat Tragedy
The Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of the affected area to assess rescue efforts being carried out by multiple teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Officials confirmed that eight people remain missing even five days after the boat capsized.
The tragic incident occurred on October 29, when a boat carrying 22 passengers capsized after colliding with a tree in the Kaudiyaala River, which flows through the Katarnia forests near Bharthapur village under the Sujauli police station limits.
While 13 passengers were rescued, nine were reported missing. The body of Ramdei (60) was recovered late Saturday night, reducing the number of missing persons to eight.
Rescue Operations Continue Under Close Monitoring
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reached Bahraich around 2 p.m. and personally reviewed the ongoing rescue work from the air. Following the survey, he is expected to meet with the families of the missing victims in Mihipurwa to express condolences and ensure that all possible assistance is extended to them.
Officials have been instructed to maintain a continuous search operation until every missing individual is found. Local divers are working alongside NDRF and SDRF personnel to comb the river and adjoining forest areas.
Relief Measures and Government Support
Earlier, Minister of State for Prisons Suresh Rahi visited Bharthapur village on Friday to meet with affected families. He handed over a compensation cheque of ₹4 lakh to the family of the deceased woman and assured villagers that the rescue efforts would not stop until the last missing person is found.
“The state government stands firmly with the victims’ families. Every possible resource has been deployed for the rescue operation,” Rahi stated during his visit.

Background: The Kaudiyaala River Boat Accident
The Kaudiyaala River, flowing through dense forests of Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, poses significant navigational challenges due to submerged trees and strong undercurrents.
Local villagers rely on boats for transportation, and authorities are now considering additional safety measures, including the use of life jackets and regulated ferry services, to prevent such incidents in the future.
Government Ensures Ongoing Assistance
District officials have set up temporary help desks for the affected families, providing logistical and financial support. CM Yogi’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to swift relief and accountability, ensuring that both rescue and rehabilitation measures are effectively implemented.
