Lakhimpur Kheri: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday announced the withdrawal of cases filed against members of the Tharu community during the previous regime, while distributing land ownership rights to thousands of families in Lakhimpur Kheri.
Addressing a public gathering at Chandan Chowki in Palia, the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 314 development projects worth ₹817 crore across multiple assembly constituencies.
Relief for Tharu Community: Cases to Be Withdrawn
The Chief Minister stated that cases filed against members of the Tharu community during the previous Samajwadi Party government would be withdrawn.
He alleged that earlier regimes had filed “false cases” against members of the community who had raised their voices, assuring that such actions would no longer continue under the current government.
Land Rights Distributed to Over 6,700 Families
In a major welfare initiative, the Chief Minister distributed land title deeds to:
- 4,356 Tharu families covering 5,338 hectares
- 2,350 families affected by river erosion covering 4,251 hectares
The move is aimed at providing legal ownership, dignity, and long-pending rights to communities that had remained deprived for decades.
₹817 Crore Development Push Across Four Constituencies
CM Yogi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 314 development projects worth ₹817 crore across:
- Palia
- Srinagar
- Nighasan
- Gola Gokarnath
These projects are expected to boost infrastructure, connectivity, and economic activity in the region.
Strong Warning Against Mafia Elements
Reiterating his government’s tough stance on crime, the Chief Minister warned that those attempting to act as “mafia” should be prepared to face strict consequences.
He emphasized that the government would not allow criminal elements to exploit the poor or deprive youth of employment opportunities.
‘People Gave Us Power, We Are Returning Their Rights’
Highlighting the philosophy of governance, CM Yogi said that true administration lies in ensuring the welfare and happiness of the people.
He described the land distribution as a historic step towards:
- Self-reliance
- Self-respect
- Legal empowerment
He added that rights once denied for decades are now being delivered on the ground.
Decades-Old Land Issues Finally Addressed
The Chief Minister noted that families, including descendants of freedom fighters settled in the region, had been awaiting land ownership rights since the 1950s and 1970s.
Despite assurances in the past, ownership rights were never granted—until now.
He termed the initiative as completion of a “long-pending journey” of justice.
From Beneficiaries to Entrepreneurs: Focus on Tharu Community
The government aims to transform the Tharu community from welfare beneficiaries into entrepreneurs.
Initiatives include:
- Promotion of Tharu handicrafts
- Market access at national and international levels
- Support through Self-Help Groups (SHGs)
Over 300 women-led SHGs are active in the region, supported with financial assistance under government schemes.
Support for Farmers Amid Unseasonal Rains
The Chief Minister also addressed concerns of farmers affected by hailstorms and unseasonal rains.
Key announcements include:
- Immediate survey of crop damage
- Financial aid via insurance and disaster relief funds
- Compensation within 24 hours in cases of loss of life or livestock
Development Vision for Lakhimpur Kheri
CM Yogi highlighted major development initiatives in the district:
- Gola Gokarnath Corridor development
- Establishment of a PLA plant
- Proposed Plastic Park
- Medical college in Srinagar
- Flood control measures through Sharda river dredging
He emphasized that the district is emerging as a hub of development, agriculture, and tourism.
Towards ‘Viksit Uttar Pradesh’
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to:
- Housing for all
- Employment generation
- Infrastructure expansion
- Implementation of the SVAMITVA scheme
He said the vision of a “Developed India and Developed Uttar Pradesh” is being realized through inclusive governance and welfare-driven policies.
