Under the agreement signed on May 7, CIL will gradually develop wind and solar power capacities across the country to meet the long-term renewable energy demands of AM Green. The wind energy component is expected to contribute between 1500 MW and 2000 MW, with a total investment of around Rs. 25,000 crore. Potential wind project locations will be explored in the southern states, while solar plants are planned for sun-rich states such as Gujarat and Rajasthan.
AM Green, promoted by the founders of Hyderabad-based Greenko Group, plans to integrate the renewable energy provided by CIL with pumped hydro storage systems to ensure a consistent supply of green power. The company is aiming to produce 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia by 2030, equivalent to 1 MTPA of green hydrogen, contributing nearly 20% of India’s green hydrogen target under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
CIL Chairman Mr. P.M. Prasad stated that while coal remains critical for India’s energy needs in the near term, the company is committed to playing a proactive role in building a sustainable future, aligned with its vision to become an integrated energy provider.
Mr. Mahesh Kolli, Founder of Greenko Group and AM Green, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, describing it as one of the world’s largest carbon-free renewable energy supply deals. He emphasized the company’s ambition to become a cost-competitive global leader in green hydrogen and ammonia production.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Sudarsan Bora, GM (E&M) on behalf of CIL, and Mr. Shatanshu Agrawal, Senior Vice President – Business Development, for AM Green. Present at the signing were Mr. P.M. Prasad, Chairman, CIL; Mr. Mukesh Choudhary, Director (Marketing), CIL; and Mr. Anil Kumar, GM (MM & Solar), CIL.
