New Delhi: Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bhavnagar Port Infrastructure Pvt Ltd (BPIPL) to operate and maintain the upcoming container terminal at Bhavnagar Port in Gujarat.
Strategic Expansion into Port Operations
The agreement marks a significant milestone for CONCOR as it expands into port operations, aligning with its vision of forward integration. Under the MoU, CONCOR will act as the Container Terminal Operator, responsible for managing operations, marketing, and ensuring efficient logistics services at the terminal.
Bhavnagar Port Development Plan
Earlier in September 2024, Bhavnagar Port signed an agreement with the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) for infrastructure development. The plan includes the allotment of 235 hectares of land to BPIPL on a 30-year lease, with an additional provision for expanding by 250 hectares. This infrastructure boost is designed to enhance trade capacity and support the growing industrial needs of the region.
Catalyst for Regional and National Logistics
The Bhavnagar Port facility is expected to play a pivotal role in meeting the logistics requirements of Central Gujarat and the Dholera Industrial Belt. Beyond regional benefits, the port will also extend container services to customers in the National Capital Region (NCR), strengthening connectivity and improving supply chain efficiency.
CONCOR’s Network Advantage
With a nationwide network of terminals and a large fleet of rolling stock, CONCOR is well-positioned to provide reliable, efficient, and cost-effective logistics services. The collaboration with BPIPL will further consolidate CONCOR’s leadership in the logistics sector, allowing it to deliver enhanced value to its customer base.
Leadership Outlook
According to CONCOR CMD Sanjay Swarup, the collaboration will create substantial value addition for customers while reinforcing CONCOR’s presence as a trusted logistics leader. The move also reflects CONCOR’s commitment to leveraging partnerships for sustainable growth in India’s logistics and infrastructure ecosystem.
