New Delhi: In a major internal restructuring aimed at streamlining command and improving operational coordination, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has reorganized the roles and responsibilities of its senior officers at its headquarters in CGO Complex, New Delhi.
The restructuring realigns the supervisory duties of Special Director Generals (Special DGs) and Additional Director Generals (ADGs), who will now oversee the Inspectors General (IGs) of 13 key divisions. The move is designed to improve efficiency, reduce functional overlaps, and ensure better integration across operational, administrative, and support wings of the force.
New Supervisory Structure Defined
Under the revised framework, the following leadership roles have been assigned:
Vitul Kumar (IPS: 1993: UP) – Special DG (Operations)
He has been given the broadest supervisory mandate, overseeing:
- IG (Operations)
- IG (Intelligence)
- IG (CoBRA)
- IG (VIP Security)
- IG (Rapid Action Force – RAF)
This grouping brings all key combat and tactical response units under unified oversight for enhanced field coordination and crisis response.

Focus on Streamlining Command & Enhancing Accountability
The Director General (DG) and other senior leadership may continue to assign additional responsibilities as per operational needs. The new system, however, defines clearer reporting lines for IG-level officers, thereby improving accountability, transparency, and decision-making speed.
A senior official said the restructuring is part of ongoing modernization and professionalization efforts within CRPF, India’s largest Central Armed Police Force, tasked with critical internal security, counter-insurgency, and law enforcement roles.
