New Delhi: In a significant diplomatic appointment, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that 2006 batch senior IFS Deepak Miglani has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of South Sudan.
Currently serving as Ambassador to São Tomé and Príncipe, Miglani is expected to assume his new assignment in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, shortly.
MEA Confirms Appointment
In its official statement, the MEA said, “Shri Deepak Miglani (YOA: 2006), presently our Ambassador to São Tomé and Príncipe, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of South Sudan. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.”
A Seasoned Diplomat with Diverse Experience
Mr Miglani is a career diplomat from the 2006 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Over the years, he has held several key positions in India’s diplomatic corps, gaining deep experience across regions including Africa, Central Asia, South Asia, and Eastern Europe.
Most recently, he served as the Ambassador of India to São Tomé and Príncipe, assuming the role on 4 December 2023.

Miglani has held several significant foreign assignments, including–
- Consul General of India in Saint Petersburg, Russia (2018–2021)
- Consul General of India in Erbil, Iraq
- Consul General of India in Kandahar, Afghanistan
- Previous postings in Indian Embassies in Kabul (Afghanistan), Bangkok (Thailand), Ashgabat (Turkmenistan), and Beijing (China)
His diverse postings reflect a strategic understanding of geopolitics, particularly in conflict zones and emerging economies.

Education & Personal Life
Mr Miglani is a graduate of the University of Delhi. Outside of his professional responsibilities, he is known to enjoy swimming, trekking, and reading.
He is married to Seema Miglani, and the couple has two children – a daughter, Vandana, and a son, Aditya.
