New Delhi: In a significant step towards enhancing India’s maritime capabilities, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on June 26, 2025, inducted ‘Adamya’, the first Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) under the Eight FPV Project built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).
The induction ceremony was held in Goa, marking a pivotal moment in India’s journey towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
‘Adamya’ Sets New Standards in Coast Guard Fleet
‘Adamya’ is the first Indian Coast Guard vessel to feature indigenously developed Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPPs) and gearboxes, significantly enhancing maneuverability and operational efficiency at sea. These innovations provide superior navigational flexibility and control, especially in dynamic maritime conditions.
Designed and constructed entirely by Goa Shipyard Ltd, ‘Adamya’ is a testament to India’s shipbuilding capabilities and aligns with the national goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
Packed with Cutting-Edge Technology
The FPV is equipped with a 30mm CRN-91 gun, two 12.7mm stabilized remote-control guns, and integrated fire control systems. Additionally, it boasts:
- Integrated Bridge System (IBS)
- Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS)
- Automated Power Management System (APMS)
These systems collectively provide the vessel with enhanced precision, situational awareness, and automated control, enabling the Coast Guard to carry out a wide range of operations more efficiently.
Strategic Role in Coastal Security and Law Enforcement
The FPVs under this project will act as force multipliers within the ICG’s operational fleet. They will enhance capabilities in:
- Maritime law enforcement
- Coastal surveillance
- Search and rescue (SAR) operations
- Protection of India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)
- A Model for Indigenous Excellence
The successful induction of ‘Adamya’ is not only a technological achievement but also a reflection of India’s growing defence industrial base. It highlights the collaborative effort between the Indian Coast Guard and Indian shipbuilding sector to produce next-generation maritime assets.
