Dehradun: With the onset of the Chardham Yatra and the upcoming summer tourist season in Mussoorie, the Dehradun district administration is on high alert to ensure smooth travel and crowd management. District Magistrate (DM) Savin Bansal, an IAS officer of 2009 batch, has taken proactive steps to streamline traffic and enhance facilities for the expected influx of pilgrims and tourists.
Recognizing the potential for heavy congestion during the season, DM Bansal has issued strict directives to complete the construction and repair work of the alternative Kimadi Motor Road to Mussoorie by May 15. To expedite the project, an amount of Rs 40 lakh was approved, and construction work is currently underway.
To manage vehicular movement more effectively, the administration has also made the Mussoorie shuttle service operational ahead of time. Parking arrangements have been established at Library Chowk and Picture Palace, with shuttle helpdesks coordinated in collaboration with the Mussoorie Municipal Council, Police, and Transport Department.
The DM emphasized that tourists will soon get relief from the long-standing Mussoorie traffic jams, as the new measures are aimed at better flow and regulated vehicle entry. Instructions have been issued to allow only those vehicles into Mussoorie that correspond to the parking capacity available at hotels and authorized taxi stands.
In addition, parking zones have been marked at key points like Hathipaon Band, and signboards guiding shuttle parking will be installed from Mussoorie Diversion in Dehradun to Kincraig Parking. The DM has directed that a token system be implemented by the shuttle service operators to ensure smooth passenger movement as per the existing contract agreement.
Further, the authorities have planned to schedule vehicles entering Mall Road to prevent overcrowding and maintain the tourist experience.
With these comprehensive arrangements in place, the district administration aims to ensure a safe, smooth, and enjoyable experience for both pilgrims embarking on the Chardham Yatra and tourists visiting Mussoorie this summer.
