New Delhi: The Delhi Cantonment Board, under the Ministry of Defence, launched Aarambh on August 26, 2025, at Silver Oak School in Delhi Cantonment. The initiative aims to provide free education and medical support to children of construction labourers working in the Cantonment area.
Bridging Educational Gaps for Migrant Children
Children of migrant workers often lose access to consistent education due to unstable housing and frequent relocation. Aarambh seeks to fill this gap by offering foundation learning, life skills, and a safe environment for holistic growth. The program ensures these children are not left behind in the education system.
Comprehensive Welfare Support
The initiative focuses on enrolling children of labourers in local schools with free, quality education. It also provides regular medical check-ups through tie-ups with local health units. Nutrition, counselling, and holistic support are included to foster complete child development.
Facilities for Children Under the Scheme
Beneficiaries receive uniforms, shoes, school bags, tiffin boxes, water bottles, books, stationery, meals, and transport facilities. Currently, 32 children are enrolled under Aarambh. The Delhi Cantonment Board plans to expand coverage to include all eligible children in the Cantonment area.
Strengthening Inclusive Development
The Aarambh initiative reflects the Defence Ministry’s commitment to inclusive welfare, ensuring that the children of migrant labourers are not excluded from education and healthcare. By integrating support with schooling, the program safeguards the rights and development of the most vulnerable communities.
