As a tribute to the supreme sacrifice made during Sukma Maoist’s battle, a park in Pune is inaugurated in the name of martyr ‘Nitin Purushottam Bhalerao’ by Director General of CRPF Mr. Kuldeep Singh on Thursday.
Mr. Bhalerao who was posted in the 206th CoBRA battalion (commando battalion for resolute action) fought valiantly in the Chintalnar forest area of Chhatisgarh’s Sukma district and died on 29th November 2020 after being injured in an IED blast triggered by the naxalities.
He joined CRPF in 2010 as a sub-inspector but with hard work & dedication, he cleared the exam and was appointed as a gazetted officer in 2018. He was among the 10 commandos who got badly injured, 9 of them were successfully rescued but he couldn’t be saved.
One of his batch mates posted in another CoBRA unit received his last message before his death as “All the best….kill the beast.”
CoBRA was raised by CRPF in 2009 as a special guerrilla combat unit with the purpose to tackle anti-Naxal operations as well as combating insurgents in the Northeast.
