Coal India’s Digital Transformation Initiatives
Coal India Limited (CIL) has introduced several IT-based systems across its mining network:
- Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC): Enables 24×7 surveillance and electronic alert generation.
- Operator Independent Truck Dispatch System (OITDS): Ensures efficient truck movement without manual intervention.
- e-MB and e-Billing Portal: Provides transparent electronic billing.
- Centralized Safety Information System (CSIS): Strengthens safety monitoring and inspection effectiveness.
- CAAQMS: Tracks ambient air quality continuously.
- Digicoal: A digital transformation programme leveraging data-driven insights.
- ERP Initiative: Streamlines employee resource planning.

Ministry of Coal’s Citizen-Centric Monitoring Tools
The Ministry of Coal has launched the Khanan Prahari Mobile App and the CMSMS web portal. These allow citizens to report theft and illegal mining, enabling law enforcement to take prompt action.
Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy informed the Rajya Sabha that these IT-driven initiatives mark a major shift towards transparent, sustainable, and efficient coal mining operations.
