New Delhi: In a significant move to enhance the reliability and operational performance of its two oldest and busiest corridors — the Red Line (Line-1) and Yellow Line (Line-2) — the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has signed a long-term contract with Alstom Transport India Limited (ATIL).
These lines, which have been in operation since 2002 and 2004, respectively, currently operate using Distance To Go (DTG) signalling technology. With growing commuter traffic and aging infrastructure, DMRC aims to modernize its systems through this strategic collaboration.
Agreement Signed to Strengthen Core Metro Operations
The agreement was formally signed at Metro Bhawan by Manuj Singhal, Director (Infrastructure), DMRC, and Sachin Deora, Director (Commercial), ATIL. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC, and senior officials from both organizations.
The contract will be in effect for six years, with an option to extend it by an additional two years, ensuring long-term engagement and support.

Focus on Signalling System Upgrades and Technical Support
Under the agreement, Alstom will:
- Ensure the availability of onboard spares for the existing DTG-based signalling systems
- Upgrade the current data logging infrastructure to enhance root cause analysis during technical failures
- Provide continuous backend technical support through global experts for diagnostics and failure rectification
- Conduct system audits to ensure optimal operational performance
This comprehensive support model reflects a proactive maintenance and reliability strategy, aiming to prevent failures rather than merely responding to them.
OEM-Driven Reliability and Passenger Service Enhancement
By engaging Alstom — the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for these systems — DMRC is banking on expert-level support and seamless integration for both preventive and corrective measures. This partnership is expected to significantly reduce service disruptions and improve the daily commuting experience for millions of passengers who rely on these lines.
A Step Towards Future-Ready Metro Operations
DMRC has consistently prioritized technological upgrades and service excellence across its network. This agreement not only supports infrastructure resilience but also aligns with DMRC’s broader goal of offering safe, reliable, and efficient metro services across Delhi and the NCR region.
The move marks yet another milestone in Delhi Metro’s evolution into a world-class mass rapid transit system, setting new standards in urban mobility and commuter satisfaction.
