In a significant step toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy future, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has signed Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) for hydroelectric power from the upcoming Sunni Dam and Luhri Stage-I projects.
These agreements mark DVC’s continued shift toward energy diversification and grid reliability, following five earlier PPAs with NHPC. Under the new pact, hydropower allocated by the Ministry of Power will be procured by DVC once the projects become operational.
With a current installed capacity of nearly 6,500 MW—primarily thermal—DVC is aggressively pursuing clean energy to manage peak demand, bolster industrial growth, and improve grid stability across the West Bengal and Jharkhand regions.
DVC, India’s first multipurpose river valley project, is a statutory body responsible for the development and management of the Damodar River basin in West Bengal and Jharkhand.
Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) is a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. A Navratna PSU, SJVN is engaged in hydroelectric power generation and transmission, and is steadily expanding into solar, wind, and thermal power as part of India’s broader renewable energy goals
