In a unique initiative blending art, culture, and industrial development, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) unveiled a series of wall mural paintings at the Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Purulia district. The inauguration ceremony was led by DVC Chairman Mr. S. Suresh Kumar (1988-batch IAS officer), along with senior officials.
The murals were conceptualized to reflect the rich cultural and natural heritage of Purulia, highlighting the district’s historical landmarks, tourist attractions, and geographical indicators. One mural specifically promotes workplace safety and health awareness, using impactful visual communication to inspire the personnel working at the power station.
During the event, Mr. Suresh Kumar emphasized the importance of integrating art and heritage into industrial landscapes to foster stronger connections among the workforce, local communities, and the environment. “This initiative not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the power station but also celebrates the rich cultural tapestry of Purulia while reinforcing vital messages on safety and health,” he stated.
A book documenting the mural project was also released, capturing the creative process and the stories behind the artwork. The artists involved in the project were felicitated for their significant contributions to this artistic endeavour.
DVC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and preserving art, heritage, and culture across all its plants and establishments. This initiative exemplifies DVC’s dedication to creating a harmonious balance between industrial progress and cultural preservation. The murals are expected to enhance the visual appeal of the power station while serving as a medium to connect with the community and convey essential messages on workplace safety and well-being.
