In a significant step toward boosting clean and reliable energy supply, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NHPC Ltd under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) Firm & Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) scheme. The agreement secures 250 MW of solar power integrated with battery storage for a period of 25 years, marking a transformative move toward sustainable energy integration.
Under the agreement, ACME Solar Holdings Ltd will supply 250 MW of solar power, complemented by a 250 MW/1,150 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) from its upcoming plant in Rajasthan. The project is expected to be operational by June 2027.
Key Features of the Agreement:
The integration of battery storage ensures uninterrupted power during peak demand, thereby improving grid reliability and addressing critical energy storage needs. This project significantly expands DVC’s green energy portfolio and is poised to benefit industrial operations in the Damodar Valley region by enhancing grid stability. It also helps DVC meet its Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPOs) as mandated by regulatory authorities.
Mr. Arup Sarkar, Member (Finance), DVC, said, “This PPA reinforces DVC’s resolution to integrate clean, dependable energy into our network. The inclusion of a substantial battery storage system is crucial in meeting present storage requirements and ensuring a steady power supply.”
Mr. Onkar Yadav, General Manager, NHPC, remarked, “By partnering with ACME, NHPC continues to enable dispatchable solar solutions for utilities across India.”
This collaboration not only strengthens DVC’s energy portfolio but also aligns with national goals for clean energy adoption, energy security, and sustainable industrial growth.
