New Delhi: Mr Dwij Goel, a 2023 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Tripura cadre, has been transferred to the Himachal Pradesh cadre on the grounds of marriage to Ms. Anjali Garg, also an IAS officer from the 2023 batch allotted to Himachal Pradesh. The transfer was approved with the concurrence of both Tripura and Himachal Pradesh governments.
Currently Serving in West Tripura
Mr Goel is currently posted as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the District Magistrate and Collector, West Tripura. Previously, he held roles such as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and CEO of Ambassa Municipal Council. He will soon be relieved from his duties in Tripura and is expected to join his new cadre in Himachal Pradesh shortly.

A Journey Marked by Grit and Perseverance
Born on 6 January 1997, Dwij Goel hails from Kharkhauda, Meerut, and was raised by a single mother. He completed his B.Tech from NIT Bhopal, and began his professional career with a well-paying job at Hero MotoCorp. Despite financial constraints, he never lost sight of his dream to become a civil servant.
He attempted the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) three times –
- 1st Attempt (2020): Cleared prelims while working a full-time job, but fell short in the mains.
- 2nd Attempt (2021): Reached the interview stage and was placed in the reserve list, eventually getting allotted to Pondicherry Civil Services (PONDICS), where he served as Municipal Commissioner.
- 3rd Attempt (2022): Cracked the exam with AIR 71, securing a place in the IAS.
Marriage with Anjali Garg (IAS: 2023: Himachal)
Dwij Goel’s inter-cadre transfer has been processed under the standard rules of inter-cadre transfers based on marriage. His spouse, Ms. Anjali Garg, is also a 2023 batch IAS officer, currently serving in Himachal Pradesh. Such transfers are routinely approved to allow married officers to serve in the same cadre, subject to administrative considerations and mutual agreement between the respective state governments.
