New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has rolled out a dedicated public health initiative, allocating ₹2.41 crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme to support tuberculosis (TB) patients in Jharsuguda district, Odisha.
The initiative focuses on providing monthly nutritional support to TB-affected individuals and their families to aid in their recovery and treatment adherence.
MoU Signed with District Administration
The project was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MCL and the Jharsuguda District Administration. The agreement was signed by Ainul Huda, Deputy Manager (CSR), MCL, and Dr. Mahesh Mohan Panda, Chief District Medical & Public Health Officer of Jharsuguda.
As per the MoU, MCL will distribute 2,440 food baskets every month for a period of one year. The food baskets are tailored to meet the nutritional requirements of TB patients, which is a critical component of effective TB treatment.

Aligned with Pradhan Mantri TB Mukta Bharat Abhiyan
The project supports the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukta Bharat Abhiyan, a national campaign aiming to eliminate TB from India by 2025. MCL’s involvement demonstrates the growing role of public sector enterprises in supplementing government health efforts through CSR-led interventions.

MCL has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to the well-being of communities in its operational areas. In a statement, the company highlighted its focus on public health and social upliftment, emphasizing that such targeted interventions are essential for sustainable community development.
