The Central Government has extended the tenure of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri until July 14, 2026, as per an order from the Ministry of Personnel released on Monday.
Misri, a 1989 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), took on the role of Foreign Secretary on July 15. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his tenure extension beyond his retirement date of November 30, allowing him to continue as Foreign Secretary until July 14, 2026, or until further orders, whichever comes first.
The decision aligns with the provisions under FR 56(d), which permits an extension of the Foreign Secretary’s service beyond retirement in the public interest, according to officials.
