The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested former IAS officer Amit Prakash in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Jharkhand liquor scam. Following a day-long questioning session, Prakash was taken into custody and later sent to jail under judicial remand.
Amit Prakash, a promoted IAS officer, had held key positions, including Commissioner of the Excise Department and Managing Director of the Jharkhand State Beverages Corporation Limited (JSBCL), until December 2024. According to ACB officials, his arrest was based on substantial evidence, and he was informed of the charges against him. Before being presented in court, Prakash underwent a routine medical checkup.
Now retired, Prakash is the second senior bureaucrat to be arrested in the case. Earlier, on May 20, IAS officer Vinay Choubey and former Joint Commissioner of Excise Ganjendra Singh were taken into custody. The following day, the ACB arrested three more individuals—JSBCL finance GM Sudhir Kumar Das, operations and finance GM Sudhir Kumar, and Neeraj Kumar Singh, a local agent of M/s Marshan Innovative Security Service Limited—as part of its widening probe into the alleged scam.
