Mohammad Izhar Alam, a 1974-batch Indian Police Services (IPS) officer, passed away due to cardiac arrest aged 72.
According to late Mr. Alam’s personal security officer (PSO) the former DGP of Punjab suffered from cardiac arrest at his house in Chandigarh after which he was taken to Fortis Hospital, Mohali. It was at the hospital that he was declared dead around 8:30 am on Tuesday.
Mr Alam joined Akali Dal after his retirement in 2009 and was appointed as Chairman of the Punjab Waqf Board by the erstwhile Akali Dal-led government in the state
Chief Minister of Panjab Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted his condolences for former DGP of Punjab.
