New Delhi: In a key administrative move, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Mr Ashutosh Agnihotri, currently the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), as the new Chairman of the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC). The decision was formalized through an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday.
Experienced Administrator Takes Charge
Mr Agnihotri, a 1999 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has been serving as CMD of FCI since January 3, 2025. In addition to his current role, he has been a member of the CWC board since January 29, 2025. His appointment as Chairman of CWC marks a significant step in his distinguished career in public service.

Educational and Professional Background
Mr. Agnihotri holds a Master of Arts degree in English Literature, a Master of Science in Public Management and Governance from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. His diverse educational background complements his extensive administrative experience.

Broad Government Experience
Before his tenure as CMD of FCI, Agnihotri served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs. He has also held several key positions within the Government of Assam, working across departments such as Home and Political Affairs, Sports and Youth Welfare, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, as well as Commerce and Industries. This wide-ranging experience across central and state government bodies equips him well for his new leadership role at CWC.
CWC: A Critical Role
The Central Warehousing Corporation plays a vital role in India’s agricultural supply chain by providing storage and logistics services for agricultural produce, industrial goods, and other commodities. With Agnihotri’s appointment, the government aims to strengthen CWC’s operational efficiency and strategic vision to support India’s food security and supply infrastructure.
