GAIL Appoints Deepak Gupta as Chairman & Managing Director, Tenure Till February 2029

Former Director (Projects) takes charge to lead GAIL’s LNG, pipeline, and energy infrastructure expansion across India

New Delhi: GAIL (India) Limited has announced the appointment of Mr. Deepak Gupta, Director (Projects), as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), effective from 1 March 2026. His tenure will continue until 28 February 2029 or until further orders. The appointment has been approved by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) and formally disclosed to the BSE (Scrip Code: 532155) and NSE (Scrip Code: GAIL-EQ) in compliance with SEBI regulations.

ACC and PESB Approvals Complete Appointment

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved Gupta’s appointment following a recommendation by MoPNG under letter No. CA-31022/1/2024-PNG (49119) dated 12 February 2026.

Mr. Deepak Gupta was earlier selected by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) in November 2025 for the CMD position. With ACC approval, all formalities under the Companies Act, 2013, and SEBI guidelines have been completed.

Mr. Deepak Gupta is a seasoned professional in the energy and infrastructure sector, with extensive experience in:

  • Natural gas pipeline projects
  • LNG operations and infrastructure
  • City gas distribution and large-scale energy projects

As Director (Projects) at GAIL, he has overseen multiple strategic initiatives, including pipeline expansion, petrochemical projects, and capacity augmentation.

Strategic Leadership at a Crucial Time

Gupta’s elevation comes at a time when GAIL is actively pursuing energy infrastructure development and supporting India’s energy transition goals. His experience in large-scale project execution positions him to lead the company toward continued growth and innovation in the natural gas and energy sector.
