Sivasagar, Assam: A gas release incident occurred at Well No. RDS-147 of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) in the Rudrasagar Field, Sivasagar district, Assam, around 11:45 AM on Thursday, 12th June. The incident took place during routine servicing operations at the well.
According to an official statement, gushes of gas were observed, prompting ONGC to immediately activate safety protocols.
The company stated that efforts are underway to control the continuous gas leak from well RDS#147A near Bhotiapar in the Rudrasagar field. ONGC’s Crisis Management Team is actively working on site, deploying the necessary equipment to contain the situation. The fluids required for the control operation are ready, with the next phase set to begin at daybreak tomorrow.
No Fire, No Injuries: Site Secured Promptly
Emergency response teams led by the Asset Manager were rushed to the site, and the well area was promptly secured.
ONGC has confirmed that-
- There was no fire
- No injuries or casualties occurred
- The situation is fully under control
Reinforcement teams, along with technical specialists, are now on-site to oversee the safe normalization of well operations.
Investigation Initiated to Identify Root Cause
While the immediate threat has been contained, a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the root cause of the gas release.
