The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, has introduced an Auto Claim Solution to streamline advance claim settlements for education, marriage, and housing purposes, benefiting millions of its members. Initially launched in April 2020 for illness-related advances, this automated system has now been extended, with the settlement limit increased to Rs. 1,00,000. During the current fiscal year, around 2.25 crore members are expected to benefit from this facility.
In the fiscal year 2023-24, EPFO settled approximately 4.45 crore claims, with over 60% of them being advance claims. Notably, around 89.52 lakh of these claims were settled using the auto-mode feature. This expansion of auto claims to include education, marriage, and housing purposes, coupled with the doubling of the settlement limit, is poised to benefit lakhs of EPFO members.
The entire process of auto-settlement is driven by IT systems, eliminating the need for human intervention. Claims meeting KYC, eligibility, and bank validation criteria are processed automatically, significantly reducing settlement time from 10 days to just 3-4 days. Claims not validated by the system undergo further scrutiny and approvals, ensuring a smooth process for all members.
Since its nationwide launch on May 6, 2024, EPFO has already approved 13,011 cases, amounting to Rs. 45.95 crores, under this initiative. This initiative aims to provide speedy and efficient service, enabling members to promptly access funds for their education, marriage, or housing needs.
