Ujjain: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav participated in Govardhan Puja celebrations at the Tilkeshwar Mahadev Temple Gaushala in Ujjain on Tuesday, where he performed rituals, worshipped cows, and took part in the traditional Gau Annakoot ceremony. The event underscored the cultural and spiritual significance of cow worship in Indian traditions and highlighted the Madhya Pradesh government’s initiatives for farmers, cattle welfare, and rural prosperity.
“Our Eternal Culture Teaches Us to Stay Connected with Nature”: CM Yadav
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Yadav emphasized that Govardhan Puja is being observed across homes, cowsheds, and villages in Madhya Pradesh as a symbol of service to cows and respect for nature.
“Our eternal culture teaches us to remain connected with nature. The cow takes care of all of us along with her calf. Lord Krishna is also known as Gopal Krishna — the protector of cows,” he said.
He added that Diwali is truly meaningful only when farmers and cattle prosper, as both are vital pillars of India’s agrarian identity.
Key Government Initiatives Highlighted
During his address, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav outlined several government schemes aimed at empowering farmers and traders –
- Increased grants for cows housed in gaushalas (cow shelters)
- Subsidies for dairy production to encourage milk production
- Plans to “make every home a Gopal”, promoting cow-based sustainability
- River Linking Campaign to boost irrigation
- Up to 90% subsidy under Surya Ghar Yojana for installing solar pumps
- Implementation of Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana for soybean — ensuring fair price assurance
Dr. Yadav assured that these schemes are designed to bridge the gap between farmers and market traders, enhance the prestige of grain markets, and support processing units and food parks in the Malwa region.

“Vocal for Local” and Food Processing Push
Reinforcing the call for Vocal for Local, the Chief Minister urged farmers and market traders to collaborate in food processing ventures, highlighting the government’s intent to build a food park in Malwa. This would allow farmers to secure better prices and give traders confidence in business continuity.
Honoring Tradition and Leadership
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav also performed the abhishek and worship of Tilkeshwar Mahadev, praying for the progress and prosperity of Madhya Pradesh. At the event, he extended Govardhan Puja wishes to citizens and reiterated the administration’s commitment to cultural values and rural development.
President of the Market Traders Association, Shri Jitendra Agarwal, delivered a welcome address, lauding the Chief Minister for his farmer- and trader-friendly policies. The association presented Dr. Yadav with a memento and a statue of Mother Cow as a token of respect.
