CCIT) for the panel year 2026. The promotions have been sanctioned by the Central Government on an in-situ basis, reflecting the officers’ distinguished service and seniority.
Details of the Promotion
According to an office order issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on December 31, 2025, the promoted officers have been elevated to the Pr. CCIT rank at Level 17 of the Pay Matrix. The promotions are effective from January 1, 2026, or from the date of assumption of charge, whichever is later, and will remain valid until further orders.

The CBDT order also clarifies that upon promotion, the officers will continue to hold their existing posts until formal posting orders are issued. This ensures administrative continuity and allows the newly promoted principal chief commissioners to transition smoothly into their enhanced responsibilities.
Significance of the Promotion
Promotion to the Pr. CCIT rank is a recognition of the officers’ long-standing contributions to the Income Tax Department, their expertise in handling complex tax matters, and their leadership in managing regional and divisional tax operations.
