Assam Police welcomed International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in style by nabbing two heroine dealers along with the contraband on the eve of the D-day.
Acting on a source information that a Manipur-based narcotics group was supplying narcotics through Assam, the group was tracked and chased down by a STF team led by Kalyan Pathak, ASP (HQ), Kamrup, while on its way to deliver the contraband in a Fortuner car.
In order to escape the police dragnet, the peddlers over sped and in the process lost control of the car and fell down 100 feet from the Powa-Mecca hillock in Hajo town.
However, police caught them and search of the damaged vehicle yielded 100 soap boxes of heroin weighing 1 kg 300 gms and further search of their rented house in Jalukbari led to recovery of another 65 packets of heroin weighing 900 gms.
A total of around 2.2 kg of heroin worth Rs 18 crores in the international market were seized, said DGP (Administration) Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS.
