Patna: In a landmark move aimed at enhancing women’s safety and comfort in public transport, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday flagged off 80 women-only Pink Buses and inaugurated e-ticketing facilities across all 1,065 BSRTC buses at a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Patna.
Women-Only Buses with Female Drivers and Conductors
The newly introduced Pink Buses are exclusively for women passengers, with female drivers and conductors operating the fleet to ensure a secure travel environment. Each bus is equipped with three CCTV cameras and additional safety features. Special arrangements have been made for pregnant women, including dedicated seating and attentive service from conductors.
CM Nitish Kumar stated, “These buses will make travel safer and more convenient for women, enabling them to commute freely for work, education, and other activities without fear or discomfort.”
E-Ticketing to Streamline Travel
Alongside the Pink Buses, the CM launched e-ticketing facilities across all 1,065 BSRTC buses. This initiative aims to reduce waiting times, increase transparency, and make travel more convenient for all passengers. Real-time monitoring of buses will be conducted from a central control room to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
Focus on Safety, Convenience, and Feedback
The government plans to collect feedback from women passengers to continuously improve services. Each bus is designed to provide a comfortable and secure travel experience, particularly for long-distance journeys, while adhering to strict safety norms.
CM Nitish Kumar highlighted the initiative on social media, writing on X:
“Today, I inaugurated e-ticketing across all 1,065 BSRTC buses and flagged off 80 new women-only Pink Buses. These buses will make travel safer, more comfortable, and convenient for women across Bihar.“
Expanding Women-Centric Transport Services
This initiative is part of Bihar’s broader efforts to empower women and ensure gender-sensitive infrastructure. The state government plans to expand the Pink Bus network to cover more routes and districts in the coming months, reaching a larger number of women commuters and reinforcing safety and convenience across the public transport system.
