The mineral-rich state of Chhattisgarh has made remarkable progress in mining, combining technological innovation with transparent governance. Through continuous policy reforms and strategic exploration, the state has positioned itself as a leader in mineral resource development, contributing significantly to both the state and national economies.
Massive Contribution to Economy and National Output
Chhattisgarh’s mining sector now contributes approximately 10% to the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), while its share in India’s total mineral production stands at an impressive 17%. Mineral revenue has skyrocketed from Rs. 429 crore at the time of the state’s formation to Rs. 14,592 crore in 2024-25—a 34-fold increase.
Rich Deposits of Strategic and Rare Earth Minerals
Recent explorations have confirmed large-scale deposits of world-class minerals including iron ore, coal, limestone, bauxite, tin, and critical and rare earth elements. These discoveries are expected to further attract global investment and elevate Chhattisgarh’s status as a mining and strategic mineral hub.
Auction Success Under National Mineral Policy
Chhattisgarh has successfully auctioned 60 mineral blocks under the Mineral Auction Rules 2015 of the MMDR Act. These include 15 iron ore, 14 bauxite, 18 limestone, and 13 critical and strategic mineral blocks. The auction process for five new mineral blocks—covering limestone, iron ore, gold, and base metals—has also been initiated, ensuring continued momentum.
Strategic Academic Collaborations for Scientific Mining
To strengthen scientific research and mineral exploration, the Directorate of Geology and Mining, Chhattisgarh, has signed MoUs with premier institutions including IIT Mumbai, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and Coal India Limited. These partnerships mark a shift towards data-driven, technologically advanced mining practices.
District Mineral Foundation Ushers in Public Welfare
Under the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana Guidelines 2024, and the newly notified District Mineral Foundation Trust Rules 2025, Chhattisgarh has received Rs. 16,119 crore in DMF contributions. Of 105,653 sanctioned development projects, 74,454 have already been completed. The implementation of the DMF Portal 2.0 ensures transparency in financial approvals and project monitoring.
Full Digitization Through Mineral Online 2.0
The state’s Mineral Online 2.0 portal has revolutionized mineral governance by digitizing every aspect of administration. Developed by the Mineral Department, the system enables secure, efficient, and transparent management of mining operations. Sand mine allocations are now conducted entirely online through an MoU with MSTC, ensuring zero human interference.
Sustainable Mining via Star Rating System
Under the Minor Minerals Rules 2015, Chhattisgarh evaluates mines based on environmental, safety, and sustainability parameters. Three mines have been awarded a prestigious 5-star rating and 32 mines have received 4-star ratings—demonstrating the state’s commitment to responsible mining practices.
Chief Minister Highlights Holistic Development
Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that mineral wealth is not just a resource, but a foundation for inclusive development. He stated that Chhattisgarh is setting a national example through policy coordination, digital transparency, and sustainable practices that align economic growth with public interest.
