Like a little ray of hope, various states and UTs of India such as Maharashtra, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have started showing a minute decrease in the daily news of Covid19 cases.
Health ministry data show that after crossing 4 lakh cases on April 30, the number of daily new cases dropped marginally to 3,92,488 and 3,68,147 on May 1 and May 2, respectively. The seven-day moving average growth rate in active cases is now 2.9%. On Sunday morning, the active caseload stood at 34,13,642.
About 12 district in Maharashtra have shown decline in their cases in the last 15 days. Similar is the case with other states, as well.
However, looking at the overcrowding of hospitals and the numerous demands for oxygen cylinders and concentrators that are, otherwise, not available in any hospital, it can be said that this slowdown can also be attributed to a slow rate of testing. The rise in cases seems to be slow in reports and papers but not in reality.
