Under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the Jharkhand government has approved the creation of a new police sub-division in Mango, East Singhbhum, to address rising crime rates and ease pressure on urban policing. The decision comes in response to increasing cases of economic offences, narcotics-related activities, and other crimes in Mango, Azadnagar, and Olidih.
High-Level Bureaucratic Review and Decision
The proposal, put forward by the Home, Jail and Disaster Management Department, was cleared during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Ms. Alka Tiwari (1988-batch IAS officer). She directed the Director General of Police, Mr. Anurag Gupta (1990-batch IPS officer), to conduct a state-wide assessment of crime trends and identify gaps in policing resources. This strategic review is expected to strengthen law enforcement and ensure effective deployment of manpower and infrastructure across Jharkhand.
Ms. Tiwari emphasized that the exercise would provide comprehensive data on crime patterns and help authorities build a robust policing framework.
Strengthening Jamshedpur’s Urban Belt
The new Mango police sub-division will be carved out from Jamshedpur (headquarters) and Patamda sub-divisions, bringing Mango, Azadnagar, and Olidih under its jurisdiction. Mr. Anurag Gupta highlighted that this restructuring will enhance efforts to combat organized crime in Jamshedpur’s expanding urban belt.
Multi-Departmental Involvement
The decision was backed by top bureaucrats, including Finance Secretary Mr. Prashant Kumar, Personnel Secretary Mr. Praveen Toppo, and senior officials from the Revenue, Rural Development, and Police departments. Their participation ensured a holistic approach to law enforcement planning and urban security management.
Strengthening Governance and Urban Development
Although the government has not issued a political statement, officials indicated that the decision reflects a strong commitment to governance and public safety in fast-growing industrial townships. With East Singhbhum now hosting three police sub-divisions – Jamshedpur, Patamda, and Mango – the model is likely to be replicated in other districts facing similar urbanization pressures.
