In a major step to boost industrial growth, the West Bengal government has initiated preparatory work for developing 354.991 acres of land in the Hind Motor area for future industrial use. This development comes ahead of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) 2026 and a high-level business conclave scheduled in Kolkata on December 18, aimed at highlighting the state’s industrial potential and new investment opportunities.
Comprehensive Survey and Technical Planning
The West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) has begun a detailed topographic and grid-contour survey of the site, marking the first formal step in preparing the land for industrial activity. Officials stated that this exercise will include contour and spot-level measurements, superimposing survey data onto mouza maps, and installing DGPS-based reference pillars to ensure accurate land demarcation and avoid future disputes.
Master Plan for Systematic Land Development
A comprehensive master plan will be created based on the survey data. The exercise will identify key physical features such as existing boundaries, natural gradients, drainage lines, and connective access points, which will guide engineering designs and infrastructure placement. The planning will also include mapping nearby critical facilities like the Hind Motor Railway Station, electric sub-stations, and state or national highways to evaluate logistical advantages for prospective industries.
Leveraging Connectivity for Industrial Growth
The Hind Motor tract, falling under the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) region, offers strong connectivity through the Grand Trunk Road and the Hind Motor Railway Station. Officials highlighted that the location is ideal for light and medium-scale industrial operations, making it a strategic choice for long-term industrial expansion in the state.
Future Prospects and Investor Appeal
The survey and planning phase will enable systematic division of the land into plots, supporting future industrial development. Officials emphasized that completing these technical groundwork measures will attract investments, facilitate infrastructure development, and strengthen West Bengal’s position as a competitive industrial destination ahead of the BGBS 2026.
