New Delhi: The Central Government has officially approved an extension of the additional charge of the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) post at Engineers India Limited (EIL) to Rajnesh Singh, a senior officer from the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME). This decision ensures continued oversight and vigilance at the state-owned engineering consultancy firm in the absence of its regular appointee.
Mr Singh, a 2003-batch IRSME officer, is currently serving as the CVO at Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), a leading public sector undertaking in the natural gas sector. In addition to his primary responsibilities at GAIL, Singh has been holding the additional charge as CVO of EIL following the temporary leave of Shruti Agnihotriy, the regular incumbent and a 1998-batch officer of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS).

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued an order on May 23 confirming the extension of Singh’s dual role. As per the official notification, Singh will continue in the additional charge capacity at EIL until May 30, 2025, or until further orders – whichever is earlier. This extension comes after the previous tenure ended on April 28, 2025.
The appointment of a CVO is a critical element in ensuring transparency, integrity, and accountability within public sector enterprises. The CVO functions as a key figure in implementing preventive vigilance measures and conducting inquiries into corruption-related complaints within the organization.
With this extension, the government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining strong vigilance mechanisms across key public enterprises, even in transitional phases of leadership.
Singh brings extensive experience from the Indian Railways and his current role at GAIL, positioning him well to manage the dual responsibilities effectively during Agnihotriy’s absence.
