Rajasthan: NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated power producer, has commenced commercial operations of 193 MW solar capacity from Plot-3 of its 245 MW Nokh Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Project in Rajasthan. The milestone was officially declared operational at 00:00 hours on June 9, 2025, marking a key development in the company’s transition toward clean energy.
Major Milestone in NTPC’s Green Energy Roadmap
The Nokh Solar PV Project is part of NTPC’s broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions and increase its renewable energy footprint. The full project comprises 735 MW in total capacity, divided into three plots of 245 MW each. This new operational capacity is part of Plot-3, which is now partially active.
The announcement was made via a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Sunday by NTPC, a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Power.
Strengthening Renewable Capacity
With this commissioning, NTPC’s standalone installed capacity now stands at 59,606 MW, while the group’s total commercial capacity has reached 80,708 MW, reinforcing its leading role in India’s energy transition. The latest addition represents a growing trend of solar and renewable projects taking center stage in NTPC’s portfolio.
Commitment to Clean Energy and National Goals
NTPC continues to expand its renewable energy capacity aggressively to align with the Government of India’s ambitious renewable energy targets, which aim for 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. The Nokh project is a testament to NTPC’s proactive push into clean energy domains, including solar, wind, hydro, and green hydrogen.
This commissioning is not just a capacity addition – it’s a strategic move that aligns with both NTPC’s internal decarbonization goals and India’s broader vision for sustainable development.
Looking Ahead
The remaining capacity of Plot-3 and the other plots in the Nokh Solar PV Project are expected to become operational in the coming months, further accelerating NTPC’s clean energy growth. Once fully commissioned, the 735 MW plant will be one of the largest solar projects under NTPC’s direct execution in Rajasthan, a state known for its high solar potential.
