New Delhi: In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy drive, NLC India Limited (NLCIL) and Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) have signed a formal agreement for the development of a 500 MW solar power plant at Lahorijan in Karbi Anglong District, Assam.
The agreement was ceremoniously exchanged during the 2nd North-East Mining Ministers’ Conclave held in Guwahati, marking a pivotal step towards expanding solar energy infrastructure in the North-East region.
Land Transfer for Solar Development
As part of the agreement, APDCL will transfer 8,000 bighas of land to NIRL Assam Renewables Limited (NARL), a joint venture between APDCL and NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL)—the renewable energy arm of NLCIL.
The project is expected to significantly enhance Assam’s renewable energy capacity and contribute to the state’s and nation’s clean energy targets.
Leadership Presence at the Signing
The Deed of Agreement was officially handed over by Rakesh Kumar, Managing Director of APDCL, to Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLCIL. The signing was witnessed by Cabinet Ministers, state ministers, and senior officials, underscoring the high importance the project holds for regional development and energy security.
Strategic Collaboration to Power a Greener Future
This collaboration reflects a strong synergy between central and state-owned enterprises to leverage solar potential in underutilized regions. The Lahorijan project is expected to generate employment, boost infrastructure, and provide clean power to thousands, positioning Assam as an emerging hub for renewable energy in the North-East.
