Gandhinagar: Gujarat achieved a significant 13% year-on-year growth in post-settlement State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) collections in January 2026, according to data released by the Union Finance Ministry. The state collected ₹7,742 crore in SGST, up from ₹6,873 crore in the same month last year.
Pre-Settlement SGST Shows 8% Increase
On a pre-settlement basis, Gujarat’s SGST collections reached ₹4,338 crore in January 2026, marking an 8% rise compared to ₹4,025 crore in January 2025. This growth reflects stable consumption trends and higher compliance among businesses in the state.

National GST Collections See Moderate Growth
Across India, post-settlement SGST collections from states and Union Territories increased by 6% year-on-year, reaching ₹91,731 crore, up from ₹86,388 crore in January 2025. Pre-settlement collections also rose by 6%, totaling ₹47,817 crore.
State-Wise Highlights and Declines
Among states, Haryana led the growth chart with 27% year-on-year increase, followed by Manipur (22%) and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (19%). However, some states recorded sharp declines, including Jharkhand (-46%), Chhattisgarh (-23%), and Madhya Pradesh (-15%).
Gujarat’s Strong Performance Signals Stability
The robust GST growth in Gujarat demonstrates sustained consumption, effective tax administration, and enhanced compliance during January 2026. While the figures remain provisional and subject to revision, they highlight Gujarat’s resilience in revenue mobilization compared to other states.
