Gandhinagar: As Gujarat surges ahead in its renewable energy journey, the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conferences (VGRC) will serve as a platform to showcase the state’s achievements, innovations, and vision in green energy. The conferences, set to focus on the theme of “Green Gujarat”, will highlight the state’s ambitious Mission 100 GW by 2030, a key milestone in India’s broader goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
Leading the Renewable Energy Transition
Gujarat has already crossed a significant threshold—over 50% of its installed power generation capacity now comes from renewable sources (FY 2024–25). The state has emerged as a hub of innovation and execution in both solar and wind energy domains, supported by robust infrastructure and forward-thinking policies.
Key highlights include:
Khavda RE Park, Kutch: The world’s largest hybrid (wind-solar) renewable energy park with a proposed capacity of 37.35 GW.
India’s first nearshore wind pilot project: Located at Mahuva, Bhavnagar, setting the pace for offshore wind development.
Green Hydrogen Goal: Gujarat aims to produce 3 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030, contributing to 60% of India’s national target.
North Gujarat: A Solar Powerhouse
According to the Climate Change Department, Government of Gujarat (March 2025), North Gujarat has emerged as a solar energy leader, with solar power contributing 94.4% of the region’s total RE capacity of 4,578 MW.
Patan district leads the charge with 2,361.86 MW installed capacity through solar, wind, and small hydro.
Charanka Solar Park (749 MW): A national model for successful grid integration and private sector collaboration.
Modhera: India’s first solar-powered heritage village, powered by a 6 MW solar plant with an integrated 15 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
Radhanesda, Banaskantha: Hosts a 700 MW Ultra Mega Solar Power Project, showcasing advanced infrastructure and efficiency.
