The Ganga Expressway, regarded as one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects of Uttar Pradesh, is now nearing completion. According to the latest report released by the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) on August 25, the expressway has reached 89% completion, with most major works in their final stage.

Stretching 594 kilometers from Meerut to Prayagraj, the expressway aims to provide a modern, fast, and efficient transport corridor while fostering economic and industrial development across the state.

Major Construction Milestones Achieved

UPEIDA has highlighted significant progress in construction, reflecting efficient execution and strict project monitoring:

  • Earthwork (main road): 99% completed
  • Curb and Gutter (C&G): 100% completed
  • Granular Sub-base (GSB): 96% completed
  • Wet Mix Macadam (WMM): 97% completed
  • Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM): 96% completed
  • Structures: 1,489 out of 1,500 completed

The project’s consistent pace shows the commitment of the state government and officials in ensuring timely delivery of a landmark expressway.

Strategic Route Across 12 Districts

The Ganga Expressway begins at NH-334 in Meerut and ends at the NH-2 Bypass in Prayagraj, passing through 12 districts: Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj.

Designed as a 6-lane expressway (expandable to 8 lanes), it also includes a 3.75-meter-wide service road to ensure smooth connectivity for nearby villages, thus enhancing both long-distance travel and local access.

A Game-Changer for Uttar Pradesh’s Development

The foundation stone of this mega project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 18, 2021, in Shahjahanpur. Officials have termed it a “game-changer” for Uttar Pradesh, expected to reduce travel time drastically while opening new avenues for trade, investment, and employment.

The expressway is also set to reduce traffic congestion on existing highways and promote balanced regional development. With its near completion, the project is poised to become a historic milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure growth story.

Inauguration Expected Soon

As per UPEIDA’s latest updates, the expressway is approaching readiness for inauguration in the near future. Once operational, the Ganga Expressway will not only symbolize rapid progress in infrastructure but also mark a major step forward in the state’s journey toward economic transformation.
