Vadodara: Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple development projects worth ₹203 crore in Vadodara on Friday. The projects, organized by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, focus on water supply, roads, urban infrastructure, and cultural facilities.
New Girls’ Hostel Laid at Swarnim Gujarat Sports University
During the programme, Sanghavi also laid the foundation stone for a new girls’ hostel at Swarnim Gujarat Sports University in Desar, aimed at supporting the city’s educational infrastructure and providing modern residential facilities for female students.
Major Infrastructure Investments for Vadodara
Highlighting the government’s focus on urban planning, Sanghavi said that by 2047, 60–70% of India’s population is expected to live in cities, and early preparation for planned infrastructure is essential.
Key allocations for Vadodara’s urban development include:
- ₹1,000 crore for newly merged areas of the city.
- ₹800 crore for water supply lines.
- ₹700 crore for drainage networks.
- ₹400 crore for road renovation and strengthening.
Under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, a new overhead water tank and delivery network were inaugurated in the Bhayli and Sevasi areas, benefiting over 50,000 residents with clean drinking water. Sanghavi noted that Vadodara has already recorded a 50% reduction in water-borne diseases over the past three years.
Cultural and Tourism Infrastructure Upgrades
Sanghavi announced major enhancements to Vadodara’s cultural and tourism facilities:
- A ₹40 crore project at Sursagar Lake including an international fountain, 3D digital mapping show, Mangala Aarti darshan, laser fountain, and sound & light show.
- Development of a Heritage Square near Nyay Mandir to preserve the city’s heritage while creating a new tourist attraction.
He also praised the Vishwamitri river deepening project, completed in record time through collaboration between the state government and the Vadodara Municipal Corporation.
Vadodara’s Economic Growth and Cleanliness Drive
Sanghavi highlighted Vadodara’s emerging strength in sectors like IT, fintech, and semiconductors, which are expected to gain momentum through the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Summit.
He also urged residents to actively participate in maintaining city cleanliness, calling it a shared responsibility. Sanghavi issued a “cleanliness challenge” to Vadodara citizens, encouraging the city to aim for the top spot in national cleanliness rankings.
