Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, who is set to retire on September 30, is likely to be appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of the state, sources close to the matter have indicated. The senior bureaucrat, known for his administrative acumen and diverse experience, is currently serving on an extended term.
Extended Tenure and Distinguished Career
Saxena, a 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, took over as the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh on December 31, 2022. His original retirement was due on March 31, 2025, but he was granted a six-month extension on March 29, allowing him to continue in the role until the end of September.
Rich Administrative and International Experience
Belonging to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Prabodh Saxena has held several senior assignments both at the Centre and in state governments, as well as in multilateral institutions. He is widely regarded for his policy depth, leadership, and understanding of governance at both national and international levels.
Academically, Saxena holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Delhi University and a Master’s degree in Law from the London School of Economics (LSE). A seasoned traveler, he has visited over 75 countries, adding a global perspective to his governance style.
